Disappearance of Malaysian Flight: Short Story

The link below refers to the disappearance of Malaysia airlines flight MH370. Approximately three weeks ago the flight disappeared into thin air. Nobody knows where it went or why this tragedy occurred. This story would have the key elements of a short story. The narrator could convey a point of view what happened to the plane and whether or not it was a criminal conspiracy or just a plane malfunction. There is suspense and mystery and conflict. All of these elements make for a great short story.

And of Clay We Are Created By: Isabelle Allende

And of Clay We Are Created by Isabelle Allende is a story of desperation and survival and love. Two strangers develop a deep bond during a moment of crisis. I was caught up in the creation of their friendship and felt the pain of both Azucena and Rolf. I could really feel Rolf's frustration in trying to rescue Azucena and at the same time face his tormented past. The story is told from the perspective of his girlfriend or wife and I felt sad for her that he was forming such a strong attachment to a stranger. She lost him and after his interaction with Azucena he changed. One line that stuck in my head is when the narrator said, "I wait for you to complete the voyage into yourself, for the old wounds to heal." This creates an image of how he has traveled away from her and she desperately needs him to return from his journey. It is so sad! This is very well written with descriptive metaphors that have a powerful impact on me as a reader.

Kate Chopin: The Story of an Hour

The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin was gripping. I felt Mrs. Mallard's conflict at the news of her husband's death. How tragic that her husband of many years passed away. However, I was not surprised that Mrs. Mallard felt a sense of freedom by his death. What an ending- a twist and turn that gave me the chills.
